With funding from the 2012 New York State Departments of Health and Labor Health Workforce Retraining Initiative (HWRI), the
Continuing Care Leadership Coalilition (CCLC), the long-term care affiliate of
GNYHA, will train nursing home employees on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Quality Indicator Survey (QIS) process. The New York State Department of Health started implementation of the QIS in New York in August 2010. Implementation of QIS across the State is projected over two to three years. The QIS is a two-staged, automated survey process designed to measure systematically and objectively a nursing home’s compliance with federal and state interpretative guidelines. This process is closely linked to a nursing home’s assessment, documentation, care practices, and organizational change.
This training program will leverage the QIS process to improve performance as measured by Nursing Home Quality Measures (QMs). Participants will learn about the QIS as a tool, together with checklists, to build their Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement capacities focused on improving QIS performance. This training will also educate participants on practical and effective strategies for organizational survey readiness and improvement in QMs.
