It’s challenging to sustain quality improvement initiatives following the conclusion of a formal program. Hospital administrators consistently emphasize the importance of physician leaders in promoting quality improvement activities and note the difficulty in identifying physician quality “champions” within their organizations.

Through funding from the United Hospital Fund as part of the GNYHA/UHF Quality Improvement Initiative, the Perinatal Safety Collaborative was created to improve quality in obstetrical and perinatal care by identifying, standardizing, and implementing best practices for care delivery across the region.
